Join the Open-Xchange Community

Open-Xchange invites industry partners, developers, systems administrators and end users to join the Open-Xchange community program to participate in the implementation and extension of Open-Xchange's next generation collaboration suite.

Open-Xchange releases all server components, installation and administration tools under the General Public License (GPL) Version 2. Open-Xchange Server includes a lightweight servlet engine supporting the Apache Jserv Protocol (AJP) to communicate with a webserver like Apache, a MySQL database, and a mail server supporting both SMTP and IMAP protocols. Open-Xchange Server is a fully functional, self-contained collaboration server supporting standard protocols to communicate with open source server components as well as collaboration client software like Mozilla Thunderbird, Mozilla Sunbird, and Apple Mail.

In addition to the Open-Xchange Server, the AJAX-based user interface is available for free download, licensed under the Creative Commons License, Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 2.5. This license ensures that industry partners have to enter into an agreement with Open-Xchange Inc., if they want to redistribute this work for commercial purposes. For additional information, please visit our Creative Commons FAQ. The Open-Xchange user interface is built on AJAX technology, enables tool tips, draggable items, and right-click menus in the user interface. The AJAX user interface concept enables partners and developers to integrate third party information systems and content of popular web applications from e.g. Google, eBay, Amazon, and Yahoo using mashup capabilities by UWA (Netvibes Universal Widget API).

You are welcome to download, use, and modify the Community Edition containing all server components, installation and administration tools as well as the AJAX-based user interface free of charge, provided to you according to the terms of the respective licenses.

In addition, you gain access to the underlining source code. As of today, Open-Xchange Community Edition is available for Debian and Ubuntu, with more Linux distribution support to be added soon via the openSUSE.org Build Service.

We welcome you to join the Open-Xchange Community and share bug-fixes, enhancements and extensions. We look forward to get your source code, object or binary code, digital content and documentation to include it in the next release of your favorite collaboration suite.
